How to be Successful in Real Estate (...or Anything)
by Christopher Levarek
“Our eyes only see and our ears only hear what are brain is looking for.”
- Dan Sullivan
Imagine you are heading to San Diego somewhere on the road between Yuma Arizona and San Diego, CA. You have been driving for four hours now in the middle of the desert landscape when suddenly you decide you want to turn back. Now that you are somewhere in the middle, away from civilization, it seems like such a long distance. In fact, you aren’t entirely sure why you started in the first place.
You exclaim to the world, “San Diego is an impossible dream, I’ll never get there! I don’t even know where I am!”
You turn your car around and head back the only direction you know for certain, back to Yuma. On the slow but familiar drive back, you tell yourself it was all a “pipe dream” and Yuma is where you belong.
Does this sound like a fictional story? Why would anyone drive halfway to San Diego to turn around?
Funny enough, this is what people do daily, weekly, monthly or yearly with every goal you can imagine. It even occurs a plenty in real estate! In this article, we are going to explore a concept for success that can be applied to real estate investing or any goal to ensure you are always successful. Yes you heard that right, always successful.
This simple concept focuses on Clarity, Commitment and Action as coined by one of our team members, my brother Ashton Levarek. Let’s jump in!
Step One : Clarity
This is the first part of the concept to being successful at anything. It all starts with clarity on your goal. I get it, this has been said by many a motivational speaker but there is a reason! Most people fail because they did not have a strong enough desire. Have a strong enough goal or purpose behind the goal, I assure you the game changes.
Whether that goal be to read a book a month or invest in your first real estate property, clarity is key. Understanding the why behind your goal and being crystal clear on what you are trying to achieve are the framework for success. Upon this you build your plans, your methods and your success!
Get clear on whatever you are trying to achieve. Write it down. Know it. Visit it often.
Step Two : Commitment
Now, commit to the goal. Do not simply commit to doing 1/4 of the goal. For better or worse, commit to doing the entire goal. If you are crystal clear on your why behind the goal, there can be no other option. You commit because it means something to you. Your commitment is a testament to the clarity you put forth in step one.
Most miss this part because their clarity on the why or vision is lacking. Revisit step one if your commitment is faltering. Use it to re-commit! In fact revisit it daily. Are you committed, whether success or failure, to actually doing it? Are you committed regardless of what happens along the way?
Commit to the goal 100%. Do not leave any room for an out because there is none. You are committed to it, come what may. You Will Do This Thing.
Step Three : Action
Take Action. You know what you need to do and why. You’ve committed to this thing. You are all in. Now take action. Take so much action that it strengthens your commitment and affirms your reason why. Taking action conquers all fear. Afraid of messing it up? Take action. Scared to get it wrong? Take action.
Action will drive you forward towards your goal. Action will ensure you never fail because you can only learn from action. Each step in taking action ensures you are stronger and smarter then ever before. There can be no failure through taking action, only success from learning.
Action conquers doubt and fear. Take action to prove you are committed. Take action because you know your why. Take action because there is no alternative.
In Final
If you are looking how to be successful in real estate, the answer is found in the above steps. Trust me, we know a thing or two about the journey and I can personally attest to using this method!
Each of the steps in the process can however be used in every goal or challenge in life. Whether investing in real estate, joining the Special Forces of the Military (aka. my brother), getting a degree, finding a romantic partner or anything, this three step process is the guiding principle. Improve at anything by simply taking the same goal through the process again.
I recommend also listening from my brother, Ashton Levarek, who used this concept to achieve a 21 year Special Operations career which hosts a near 70% washout rate among candidates. Checkout the podcast episode where he explains this concept in our podcast show “Art of Winning”.
Wishing you much success and Happy Investing!
